Paid traffic quality

Measure paid traffic quality: which campaigns bring VPN, proxy and datacenter visitors

Click fraud and low-quality placements look like traffic until you check the network. FindIP Shield scores each visit for VPN, proxy, datacenter and malicious-IP signals and pushes the result to the dataLayer, so your analytics can split campaign traffic by the kind of network it came from.

Hosting / datacenter Proxy VPN Malicious IP Scanner infrastructure Risk per session in dataLayer
The problem

Sessions are not customers. Some of them are not people.

A placement that delivers cheap clicks from hosting ranges will look efficient in the ad platform and terrible in revenue. The bounce rate hints at it; the network tells you.

Shield gives each session a network classification with the reason. Pushed to the dataLayer and mapped to a GA4 dimension, it becomes a filter you can apply to any campaign, source or landing page you already report on.

The Shield dashboard shows the same sessions with the page they landed on and the network behind them, so you can check a suspicious campaign directly.

What Shield shows you

The evidence, then the response you choose

Risk as a dimension in your analytics

Each scored event is pushed to the dataLayer with its score, level and the VPN, proxy, Tor, hosting and malicious flags. Map them to GA4 custom dimensions and compare sources by share of datacenter, proxy or VPN sessions.

Landing pages and networks, side by side

In the Shield dashboard, sessions show the pages visited and the network reasons, so a campaign landing page can be inspected on its own.

Lead forms, protected when you decide

If low-quality traffic is filling your lead form, give that form a response: slow down, a Turnstile check, or stop for the highest scores. Everything else stays monitor only.

Setup

Install through Google Tag Manager in three steps

For marketing teams who already own the container. No application deploy, and results land in the dataLayer where GA4 can read them.

Import the tag template

Download the FindIP Shield template file and import it under Templates, Tag Templates, New, Import. The template is also published on GitHub.

Create the tag

Add a tag from the template, paste your public site key, choose the privacy mode, and keep Push to dataLayer on so results reach your other tags.

Publish and verify

Set the trigger to All Pages, publish the container, then return to the Shield install page to confirm the first event arrived.

Prefer another route? Prefer a script tag on the landing pages only? That works too.

Boundaries

What a risk score is, and what it is not

An assessment, not proof. A VPN, a hosting network or a changing IP is common for privacy-conscious and corporate users too. Shield explains the reasons so you can decide; it does not pass judgement on a person.
Friction, not a security boundary. Anything decided in the browser can be bypassed by someone who controls it. For decisions that matter, verify the session from your server with your secret key.
Unknown is never safe. Where no intelligence was available the status is unknown. Shield fails open: if a decision does not arrive, the form submits as normal.
Questions

Frequently asked

Shield reports the network signals per event and session. Campaign attribution stays in your analytics; the dataLayer push lets you join the two there, where your UTM data already lives.

You can export what Shield recorded, but whether a platform accepts third-party network classification as evidence is up to them. Treat it as a diagnostic that tells you where to stop spending.

Corporate VPNs and office networks will carry a VPN or hosting signal. That is expected, and it is why the signal is a dimension to segment by rather than a verdict.
